Corona: Lower Saxony lifts isolation requirements from February NDR.de – News

Lower Saxony’s Health Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD) has announced the end of the corona isolation obligation. The corresponding regulation expires on January 31 – and will not be extended.

Behrens spoke of the “right step towards normality in dealing with Covid-19″. Lower Saxony survived both the autumn wave in October and the currently ebbing winter wave without the health system being overloaded due to corona,” said the Minister of Health. According to her authority, Germany and Lower Saxony are now in a phase in which the corona has reached an endemic state and thereby losing a large part of its terror.

Lower Saxony follows other federal states

The isolation requirement has been extended several times in Lower Saxony. Anyone suffering from corona currently has to isolate themselves at home for at least five days, or longer if the symptoms persist. With the current step, Lower Saxony is following some other federal states: In Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Schleswig-Holstein, there has no longer been an obligation to isolate people infected with corona since November. Thuringia wants to do without it from February 3rd. Bremen ends the corona isolation obligation at the same time as Lower Saxony. From February 1st, those infected there will no longer have to isolate themselves, as a spokesman for the health department announced on Thursday.

Mask requirement in local transport will probably end in February

According to Behrens, the mask requirement in local transport will probably come to an end in February. However, she did not give a specific date. One wants to coordinate closely with Hamburg and Bremen on the issue. “In terms of the uniformity of the rules in local and long-distance traffic, we are striving for a joint solution in the near future and will then also communicate it,” said Behrens. For the time being, it is still necessary to wear a surgical mask on bus and train journeys in Lower Saxony – unlike in Bavaria, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where this obligation no longer applies.
