Older people should be able to get a third corona vaccination from autumn. Health Minister Daniela Behrens expects that the protection will have to be renewed annually.

“We need to get booster vaccinations, said the SPD politician at the state press conference on Tuesday in Hanover. The day before, this had been discussed intensively among the health ministers of the federal states and the federal states. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) had been asked to work out a scientific basis for this. On this basis, Behrens expects that the European Medicines Agency will approve the plans. The RKI report should be presented next Monday.

Mobile vaccination teams are supposed to vaccinate in the old people’s and nursing homes

Behrens expects that the third vaccinations in old people’s and nursing homes can begin in October. For this purpose, mobile teams would be set up in coordination with the municipalities. “We know from vaccination breakthroughs in old people’s and nursing homes that the immunization of the elderly is reduced faster than is the case with younger people,” said the Minister of Health. “We will close the large vaccination centers in September,” said Behrens, “the first area of application for the mobile teams will be booster vaccinations in old people’s and nursing homes”.
