Corona in Germany: CDU countries are calling for meetings with the federal government

Status: 02.11.2021 11:24 a.m.

What should the course look like for the winter in the pandemic? In view of the increasing number of infections, some CDU state leaders are calling for a federal-state meeting. Not all country representatives consider this to be necessary.

In view of the increasing number of corona infections, the pressure for a rapid federal-state round, as proposed by the acting Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU), is growing from the group of CDU Prime Ministers. “The increasing numbers of infections make it necessary that we are very focused, vigilant and act decisively when it comes to booster vaccination,” said the North Rhine-Westphalian head of government and chairman of the conference of prime ministers, Hendrik Wüst.

NRW Prime Minister Wüst warned of vaccination breakthroughs in the “pandemic of the unvaccinated”.

Wüst for “coordinated booster strategy”

Wüst had told the dpa news agency about such a meeting: “The pandemic of the unvaccinated can quickly lead to more and more vaccination breakthroughs.” A clear pattern can be seen. “Where there was less vaccination, the virus can spread more easily. This is why a jointly coordinated booster strategy is now required.” The course for the winter must also be defined in the basic rules.

When asked about compulsory vaccination in nursing homes, the new head of the North Rhine-Westphalia government said: “I am convinced that the vast majority of people in nursing homes who work there know themselves that a vaccination is wise. And I hope that those who do it Didn’t know before, now come to the funnel. ” In a retirement home in Brandenburg there were at least 14 deaths after a corona outbreak.

“Questions cannot go unanswered”

The Saarland Prime Minister Tobias Hans also spoke out in favor of swift consultations by the federal and state governments: “We have a government that is leaving office. And we have a government that has not yet been formed. It must not be that that is why the questions are raised : How are things going on in winter now ?, remain unanswered. ”

The head of the Chancellery, Helge Braun, had already agreed to consult with the federal states if they had a need for discussion to cope with the corona pandemic.

Different opinions in other countries

Already on Sunday, Hamburg’s Senator for Health Melanie Leonhard (SPD) described a new federal-state summit as superfluous: there had only just been a conference of prime ministers. Berlin’s Governing Mayor Michael Müller (SPD) was also skeptical on ZDF.

Saxony-Anhalt’s Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) would, however, welcome a corona vote by the federal and state governments. “With a view to the very worrying Corona situation, this would be urgently required,” said a government spokesman also on Sunday. This could take place at a federal-state summit or in a conference of prime ministers. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s head of government Manuela Schwesig (SPD) said in the Report from BerlinIf it appears necessary for the federal and state governments to meet, then that should also be done.
