The number of self-employed who receive benefits from the state basic security has risen to 134,000 in the corona pandemic. According to the Federal Employment Agency, the demand has increased sixfold.
According to the Federal Employment Agency (BA), the number of self-employed people who receive financial support from the state basic security for their livelihood has increased six-fold in the course of the corona pandemic. “We are seeing a clear corona effect between April 2020 and July 2021,” said BA boss Detlef Scheele to the newspapers of the Funke media group.
Accordingly, around 134,000 self-employed registered a need for basic security during this time. “Usually it would have been around 22,000 during this period,” said Scheele. This corresponds to about a six-fold increase and is a corona-related increase of 112,000 cases.
“The corona effect is clearly evident”
According to Scheele, 328,000 of the dependent employees have been given basic security benefits. “This number is 190,000 in normal times,” said the BA boss. “The corona effect is clearly evident here.” On the whole, however, these are not particularly high values.
According to the BA, dependent employees who apply for supplementary Hartz IV are, among other things, people whose short-time allowance is very low, or so-called top-ups who receive a low wage and are therefore dependent on additional financial support.
