Man hits Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen

It is still unclear how the incident in Copenhagen city centre came about. According to police, one man was arrested.

A man attacked the Danish Prime Minister on Friday evening Mette Frederiksen was beaten in downtown Copenhagen. The Prime Minister’s office told the German Press Agency when asked. Frederiksen was “shocked by the incident.”

There are currently no further details about the incident. The Copenhagen police wrote on the X platform that they had arrested one person.

Politicians expressed their condolences to the Social Democrat. Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen wrote on X: “Oh no. What a shock. Denmark is not like that. We are not attacking our Prime Minister.” EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote: “I condemn this despicable act, which contradicts everything we believe in and fight for in Europe. I wish you strength and courage – I know you have plenty of both.”
