Controversial support – Aiwanger defends rapid corona tests – Bavaria

Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger (FW) has defended the controversial funding of a corona rapid test system. The support was correct in spring 2020 “in view of insufficient laboratory capacities and long waiting times for corona test results”, he announced on Monday. It is “quite likely” that the test system called Octea will also be used in the future and “independently of Corona”. Last year Aiwanger presented the system from GNA Biosolutions and said it was a “great device”. They have secured 1,000 test devices and a million individual tests. His ministry supported the development with eight million euros. But the Ministry of Health has so far bought six devices and 60,000 test options. “The world’s best tests are obviously a terrific flop,” scoffed the SPD in the state parliament. As also later became known, the former CSU member of the state parliament Alfred Sauter settled 300,000 euros at GNA Biosolutions when the test system was approved for legal services.
