Controversial remuneration model: rbb board of directors ends bonus system for executives

The controversial system of bonus payments for members of the management board is now to be abolished following a decision by the rbb board of directors. A contractual agreement is required for existing contracts.

The board of directors of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg has decided that there should no longer be any bonus payments for executives in rbb. “As a board of directors, we have made a very clear decision to abolish the system of variable remuneration and not to apply it in the future,” explained Dorette König after the more than six-hour meeting to rbb24 , so king.

For existing contracts, this now requires contractual agreements. The board of directors “happily accepts the offer of the non-tariff employees in the rbb to quickly ensure implementation with them”.

König pointed out that the objective of the bonus system, to have a motivating effect, was not used in rbb: “It was not used for motivation, but rather for displeasure and annoyance, and I think it is a strong sign of the managers to offer to refrain from doing so with immediate effect.” According to König, the managers also made a financial contribution to rbb “at the moment when variable remuneration was no longer paid”.

Antje Kapek, who was sent to the rbb broadcasting council by the House of Representatives for the Greens, is satisfied with the decision to end the bonuses. “This conclusion is now being drawn correctly, and the Board of Directors deserves great praise for that,” Kapek told rbb24.

The bonus system became known in the course of the allegations against the director Patricia Schlesinger, who has since been fired without notice, and the resigned chief controller Wolf-Dieter Wolf. There are no such bonuses in other ARD houses.
