Computer games for dogs: But the attention is missing – panorama

A Hong Kong company has designed a sloppy screen that dogs can use to control computer games. This is good news, especially for dogs who like peanut butter.

Dogs are not office people. They can’t sit up straight at their desks for long, don’t use touch typing, and would rather chase a mouse than click. Luckily, digitalization has passed most dogs by so far. They are pleasantly analogue beings who would rather run after sticks than sit for hours in front of a flickering image.

You can learn a lot from dogs – awareness of the moment, composure and patience for example.

But now a Hong Kong company has developed a game console for dogs. Joipaw’s games run on a touchscreen, or rather a saliva-proof, slobbery screen that the dogs can operate with their wet nose and snout. So far there is a jello game and a test where the dog has to figure out which side of a picture has more bubbles. After a successful action, the console will give out treats.

Gambling as a pastime for bored prosperity whoosh? According to Dersim Avdar, the founder of Joipaw, computer games should promote health. This is confirmed by a study with 300 dogs and 20 wolves that tested touchscreen games. The scientists found a potential cognitive benefit for dogs with aging brains. So maybe there will soon be an e-sports league for four-legged friends.

However, most dogs are not so easy to get enthusiastic about virtual gaming fun: In order to attract the animal’s attention at all, you should smear peanut butter on the screen in the first level, Avdar recommends. Good news for four-legged gourmets!
