Companies want more support with cyber security – Bavaria

The majority of companies in Bavaria would like more support in protecting against cybercrime. This is the result of a survey by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) for Munich and Upper Bavaria, which was presented in Munich on Thursday. According to this, only a quarter of the companies surveyed stated that they did not need any support from the state, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce or other organizations for IT security. Above all, the rest wanted more information on legal security and data protection requirements and organizational support.

“Small and medium-sized companies in particular need a lot more education and support to protect themselves from cyber attacks and to be well prepared for the worst-case scenario,” said IHK President Klaus Josef Lutz. “Only determined prevention can mitigate the immense potential for damage from cyber attacks.”

The IHK survey reveals the sometimes incomplete IT security in Bavarian companies. Although 96 percent back up their data regularly, less than half of the companies surveyed have a corresponding IT emergency plan. Around 60 percent each carry out risk analyzes and employee training courses on cyber security. The companies surveyed primarily use external service providers for ongoing security measures.

The survey of around 550 Bavarian companies was carried out as part of the nationwide IHK digitization barometer. According to the IHK, the participants represent a cross-section of IHK member companies from all sectors.
