Commemorating November 9th: Why the past has to be dealt with – Dachau

Another day of remembrance – and thus an occasion to perform the celebrated play on the stage of the German Memorial Theater about the “return to good” of non-Jewish Germans. The deceased historian and publicist Eike Geisel coined this perhaps sarcastic but true word with a view to the much-vaunted German culture of remembrance. On the anniversary of the nationwide pogrom on the night of November 10, 1938, politicians from the federal, state and local governments, also in the city and district of Dachau, will declare with a state-carrying voice, as in previous years: “Never again!” But the shine is gone.
