A happy surprise high above the clouds: a young woman gives birth to a child on a KLM plane. Both are fine.
During a KLM flight from Ecuador to Amsterdam, a young woman unexpectedly gave birth to a baby. A few hours before landing, the woman felt a pain in her stomach and went to the toilet. There, after a short labour, she gave birth to the child, said the Spaarnse Gasthuis clinic in Haarlem, where mother and son were taken after landing.
According to her own words, the young woman did not even know that she was pregnant and was really surprised by the birth. The airline confirmed the unusual incident above the clouds to the ANP news agency.
There were two doctors and a nurse from Austria on the plane who were able to provide help after the birth. According to the clinic, the mother named her son after one of the helpers: Maximilian. Both are doing well, reported the hospital, which also provided the necessary papers so that the mother can continue to Madrid as originally planned and now with her child.
