Nine florists from all over the country fought for the German Championship in Berlin at the weekend. In the end, a young man from Thuringia prevailed.

Christopher Ernst from Thuringia is the new German master of florists. The 36-year-old from Kindelbrück in the Sömma district prevailed against eight competitors with the highest number of points from four tasks on the subject of “freedom”, as the organizers announced on Saturday evening in Berlin. “I’m rarely at a loss for words, but today I am,” Ernst said at the award ceremony. The new German champion is allowed to travel to Manchester, Great Britain, for the 2023 World Florist Championships.

The nine florists from all over Germany competed in flower arrangements, bouquets and plants during the day in Berlin. A five-person jury then evaluated the results. Ernst received a special award for his planting. The winner himself thought that he had succeeded perfectly. Second place behind Ernst in the so-called “Florist Oscars” went to Martin Neumann from Dessau-Roßlau in Saxony-Anhalt. Behind them came Andreas Müssig from Murnau in Bavaria in third place.

The championship is also intended to draw attention to the industry and set creative impulses, as the Florists’ Association explained. The competition was last held in 2018. The winner at the time came from Baden-Württemberg.
