Collective bargaining round: the public service is overreaching – the economy

Educators, garbage workers and others in the state may soon go on strike to earn 10.5 percent more. Despite inflation, that’s too much to ask. In the end, the union is damaging its most important concern.

The Germans may face difficult weeks. There could be widespread strikes in the public sector. Then garbage collectors stop their indispensable work, educators in day care centers, staff in hospitals. And all this to enforce a double-digit wage demand. There is some evidence that the Verdi union and the civil servants’ association are going overboard.
