Collective bargaining conflict – new strikes in the post office – economy

In the collective bargaining dispute at Deutsche Post, the Verdi union has launched a new round of protests. Verdi called on employees in selected companies in the parcel and letter centers as well as in parcel, letter and group delivery to go on all-day strikes. “The strikes are a clear signal from our members towards employers,” said Verdi negotiator Andrea Kocsis. According to the Post, around 3,100 workers took part in the protests as of midday. Around 450,000 parcels are affected nationwide, which corresponds to almost seven percent of the average daily volume. There are also delays with around 1.7 million letters. Verdi is demanding 15 percent more wages for around 160,000 employees in Germany over a period of twelve months. The Post had repeatedly dismissed the salary claim as unrealistic.
