So far, five corpses have been recovered from the ruins of the 40-meter-high, L-shaped residential building called Champlain Towers South, which protruded from the rubble. 156 people are still missing. Fires that blaze in the rubble make the work of the rescue workers difficult. The cause of the collapse in the small town of Surfside near Miami Beach remains unclear.
