Coburg: 35-year-old in court for double murder – Bavaria

Because he is said to have killed his former partner and her daughter in a Kronach asylum center, a man has to answer to the Coburg district court. He is said to have committed the act out of “anger about the separation”.

A 35-year-old man has had to answer to the Coburg district court since Wednesday for double murder and serious arson. The public prosecutor accuses him of “a femicide in connection with a previous relationship”. According to the indictment, he is said to have killed a 31-year-old woman from Eritrea and her two-year-old daughter with a knife in May 2021. In addition, the man is said to have set fire to a dormitory in Kronach in Upper Franconia, where he has lived since September 2018 as a recognized asylum seeker. He himself suffered life-threatening injuries. On the first day of the trial, the accused referred to gaps in his memory and denied a murder plan.

The public prosecutor’s office accuses him of having acted out of base motives. He wanted to kill his former partner and her child, who she had from another man, after the 31-year-old had separated from him. To this end, he climbed onto the balcony of the accommodation and forced his way into his former partner’s apartment. This is said to have been pregnant shortly before by the now accused. But after she separated from him in March 2021, she had the pregnancy terminated. The accused is said to have told witnesses that he would kill his former partner.

Out of “anger about the separation and the termination of the pregnancy” – according to the public prosecutor – he decided to do it. According to the indictment, he also assumed that the 31-year-old was again having a relationship with the father of her child. According to investigations by the criminal police, the accused then bought a knife in the Kronacher Real market and left for the asylum seekers’ home. There he is said to have kicked a hole in the door of the 31-year-old’s room and stabbed the mother and child. Both died of bleeding. Shortly thereafter, the accused doused himself with liquid grill lighter and set himself on fire.

The fire spread to the kitchen, hallway and parts of the facade. The home suffered damage of 82,000 euros. In order to determine the criminal responsibility of the man, the court commissioned a psychological expert with an opinion.
