Arved Fuchs continues expedition series “Ocean Change”
He does not see himself as a scientist, but his expeditions provide important insights into the understanding of climate change. Now Arved Fuchs is setting off again on the sailing ship “Dagmar Aaen”.
The “Ocean Change” project, founded by Fuchs in 2015, deals with changes in the oceans and their impact on the climate and coastal landscapes. Since 2021, there has been a connection to the Geomar Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research in Kiel, which receives data from areas where no one else travels during the “Dagmar Aaen”‘s voyages. The collaboration could help science reach people, Fuchs said on an earlier occasion. “We can only solve the problem of climate change if we take everyone with us.”
Climate change doesn’t care whether there are other crises to overcome. “We have been managing this problem for many years and have done nothing,” criticized Fuchs. “Now we have everything, but we just don’t have any more time.” He noticed with great concern during the European elections that climate change was ranked fourth in the list of the most important issues for young people and no longer at the top as it was some time ago.
