Climate activists fined for roadblocks – Bavaria

Seven climate activists have been fined by the Kempten district court for blocking a road. The judge had largely confirmed the previous penalties from a criminal order, said a spokesman for the court on Thursday. At first she had Allgäu newspaper reported on the verdict announced on Wednesday.

The seven men and women had been charged with coercion. They are said to have paralyzed traffic on the federal highway 12 in Kempten in May 2022, according to the investigators, individual participants had glued themselves to the street. The district court had first issued penal orders against the accused because of the action. Since the activists had lodged an objection to this, the allegations had to be heard again in a trial.

The “Last Generation” group, which repeatedly organizes such roadblocks nationwide, organized a vigil for the accused in front of the court on the occasion of the trial. Several dozen demonstrators attended the gathering.
