The executive seeks alliances in parliament. Transport Minister Clément Beaune thus asked the majority on Tuesday to “not lock themselves into a dialogue with Les Républicains”, calling on the “moderate left” to “get out of the clutches of Jean-Luc Mélenchon and La France insoumise” and to “work” with the government.
Despite persistent disagreement over pension reform, “I hope that we can continue to work with left-wing political forces”, declared in an interview with Release the minister, while Emmanuel Macron asked the government to enlarge the majority. “I am convinced that there is still a moderate left, compromise, these are not dirty words,” he adds.
LR is “not a stable political force”
On ecology, end of life, transport or school, “I appeal to this left of government: work with us, without betraying or denying you”, continues Clément Beaune. He takes recent examples such as the nuclear law, “passed by the Communists”, and the renewable energy law, “passed by the Socialists”.
For the minister, turning only to the right, as some macronists argue, would be a mistake: “In theory, LR is a group that could make a majority with us, but above all we must not lock ourselves into a dialogue with LR . It’s not our DNA. In addition, “we saw with the pension reform that it was not a stable political force”.
A distance from Gérald Darmanin
Clément Beaune also distances himself from Gérald Darmanin, who denounced “the intellectual terrorism of the far left”: “I am elected from the constituency where the Bataclan is located. I’m always very careful not to use words out of context.” And he adds: “I have never put an equal sign between the extreme left and the extreme right”.
