Churches are reluctant to relax the corona measures – Bavaria

The extensive abolition of state corona protection regulations for church services in Bavaria has been received cautiously by the church leadership. The Evangelical State Church Office recommended that the parishes maintain their previous rules on wearing masks and the required distances between people until April 2, as a spokesman said on Monday. At Holy Communion celebrations, people should still not drink together from one cup.

The vicar generals of the seven Catholic dioceses in Free State have also agreed to stick to the proven hygiene concepts, as the deputy head of the Bavarian Catholic Office, Bettina Nickel, announced on request. The parishes have already been informed of this in writing. Which rules apply to the Easter services will only be decided after April 2nd.

Since the weekend, the number of participants in church services is no longer limited. Entry controls are also no longer necessary. An FFP2 mask only has to be worn if the distance between a household and the next place is less than 1.5 meters. In order not to endanger risk groups, the Catholic side recommends keeping the masks on during congregational singing and also regularly airing the churches during the service.
