BR presenter Christoph Deumling will retire at the end of March. The “Abendschau” on Friday will be his last.

BR moderator Christoph Deumling (65) is retiring. The broadcaster announced this on Wednesday. Next Friday, the 65-year-old will moderate the “Abendschau” for the last time at 6 p.m. But Deumling was also a fixture on the radio. His name is closely linked to the show “Heute im Stadion” on Bayern 1, which the presenter ran from 1996 to 2016. He put his own stamp on the show.

Almost 40 years at Bayerischer Rundfunk

Christoph Deumling started at BR in 1984 as a “Stadtrundschau” moderator. He then worked for various radio waves and formats of Bayerischer Rundfunk: from 1986 to 1996 he presented at Bayern 3, from 1996 at Bayern 1. At the same time, Deumling was also present on television: from 1987 to 2005 on the first in the “Bayernstudio” (later “Bayern im Erste”), but also with “The monkey is laughing at me” or “Roll backwards”.

He has presented the “Abendschau” on BR television since 2005, but he also presented various gala and special programs, such as the “Sternstunden Gala” from 1994 to 2012, and the Oktoberfest kick-off “O’zapft is!” from 1992 to 2021. or since 2011 the Nockherberg review “Sauber derbleckt”.

Found professional and personal happiness

“The strengths of the BR are the breadth of its program and its diversity,” Christoph Deumling is quoted as saying in a press release. The moderator looks back with pleasure on his almost 40 years of service for the station: “I am a very satisfied person. I found my professional happiness in BR.” And he adds: “My private life too.” In 1994 he met his wife Heike at Bayerischer Rundfunk.

BR program director Thomas Hinrichs (55) describes Deumling as “credible, approachable, always in a positive mood, with honest heart and empathy for the people who watch and listen to him”. The 65-year-old is a real “head” of the BR.

What is the soon-to-be-retiree looking forward to? “That my only obligation is to do justice to my family and to be a good father.”
