The complexity of the European-Chinese relationship can hardly be topped. As in concentric circles, problem after problem wraps around the core of this relationship. There, in the centre, it is about distrust and the fear of dependency. Even the double visit of the French President and the President of the Commission to Beijing has not changed anything. On the contrary: the Europeans are even more intense than the USA in their search for the right idea for dealing with Xi Jinping’s system.
