In the early years of life, children will climb almost anything that gets in their way. To satisfy their natural urge to move, a climbing frame is the ideal playground. But which models are suitable for indoors and outdoors?

The practical thing about a climbing frame is that it not only satisfies children’s incessant play instincts, but also has pedagogical added value: it promotes motor and mental abilities, the sense of balance and the ability to react. Apart from that, it’s just fun to shimmy along the play equipment and up. But which models are suitable for children, what advantages does a plastic climbing frame offer compared to wooden ones – and what safety precautions must be taken? You can find out here.

Quadro climbing frame & Co: These models exist

The 237 parts are made of high-density plastic and are suitable for both indoors and outdoors.

The materials are free of harmful substances, weatherproof and therefore suitable for both indoors and outdoors. According to the manufacturer, the model is suitable for children from twelve months, the maximum load capacity is 100 kilograms. And to be on the safe side, there are no sharp spots or sharp edges.

4. Lifetime Climbing Ball

This model is aimed at experienced climbers from the age of three. Due to its dimensions (490 cm x 137 cm), the climbing frame is only suitable for outdoor use: the frame is made of powder-coated, rustproof and weather-resistant steel, while the handles are made of special HDPE plastic. the climbing ball weighs 43 kilograms and thus offers a stable hold in the garden.

What advantages does plastic offer over wood?

Wood is undoubtedly the more sustainable material compared to plastic. Nevertheless, climbing frames made of plastic are often the better choice, especially for outdoor use. And there is an important reason for this: wood requires significantly more care outdoors, i.e. the climbing frame would ideally have to be repainted every few years to protect it from the weather. A climbing frame made of plastic, on the other hand, only needs a little water and detergent for care and cleaning. This is especially handy indoors when kids play on it with sticky fingers. In addition, old wood can splinter and increase the risk of injury.

More safety: Minimize the risk of accidents

In order to reduce the risk of injury, you should observe the following information when purchasing and setting up a climbing frame:

  • There are special test seals (e.g. from the TÜV) that provide information about the resilience, stability and workmanship of a climbing frame for children.
  • Ask that Quadro climbing frame Always stand on a smooth, level surface that is well compacted to ensure a secure footing. This increases stability.
  • If possible, choose a location in the semi-shade, as plastic can fade over time. In addition, playing in the blazing sun is not recommended for children.
  • Make sure you maintain a minimum distance from adjacent buildings, paths, gardens, etc. In the event of a fall, you minimize the risk of an accident.
  • Make the height of the climbing frame dependent on the age of the child. In other words, the younger it is, the lower the model should be (many models can be retrofitted later).

And one more important tip at the end: Never leave your child unattended while climbing!
