Charles Schumann, founder of “Schumann’s Bar” in Munich, for his 80th – Culture

Johanna Adorjan

For some time now, stupid money has been falling over Munich like a biblical plague, it takes away the village pride, the grumpy elegance, this strange, much-quoted light that is not found anywhere else. Or let’s say: It takes away this glow nearly. A city in which Charles Schumann runs a restaurant is not yet a completely stupid place. There are actually no such types as him today, especially not in big cities and other world cities, where people tend to conform and the prevailing market economy urges them to hump up and to the sides.
