Charles III salutes the “constant efforts” to bring Catholics and Protestants closer together

After the reactions of politicians to the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI which occurred this Saturday morning, Charles III, the King of England and head of the Anglican Church hailed the “constant efforts” of Benedict XVI to bring Catholics and Protestants closer together. The successor of Elizabeth II said to welcome the news of his death with “deep sadness”.

“I also remember his constant efforts to promote peace and goodwill among all peoples, and to strengthen the relationship between the worldwide Anglican Community and the Roman Catholic Church,” said the ruler of 15 states whose United Kingdom, which experienced 30 years of inter-community conflict in Northern Ireland until the 1998 agreement and where Benedict XVI made a historic visit in 2010.
