Neither corona nor cancer: Prince Albert talks about Charlène’s condition

How is Charlene of Monaco doing? This question has preoccupied fans of the Monegasque dynasty for months. Prince Albert has now spoken out in an interview and revealed details that give cause for concern.
In an exclusive interview with the US magazine “People”, Prince Albert spoke about the condition of his wife Charlène. Accordingly, the 43-year-old is outside Monaco, “somewhere in Europe” in a clinic to be treated for “psychological and physical exhaustion”. It will take several weeks for her to recover. How long exactly Charlène would have to stay in the facility, he did not say.
The couple made the decision together with Charlène’s brothers and her sister-in-law, said the 63-year-old. It was Charlene’s wish to go to a clinic. “She had already made her decision, we just wanted her to confirm it before us. She wanted that. He also repeated again that he and Charlène had no marital crisis. “I will probably say that several times, but it has nothing to do with our relationship. I want to be very clear about that. These are not problems in our relationship as husband and wife. It’s a different matter.” The prince also made it clear that his wife did not suffer from Covid-19, had cancer or had undergone surgery. The 43-year-old returned to Monaco at the beginning of November after spending several months in South Africa. An ENT infection and several operations had delayed Charlène’s return flight again and again. In the first hours after her arrival in the principality she was fine, but then “it quickly became clear that she was not feeling well,” said Albert. “She was clearly exhausted, physically and mentally. She was overwhelmed and could not devote herself to official duties, nor to life in general, and not even to family life. Albert now hopes that Charlène can recover and wants to visit her with the twins Gabriella and Jacques as soon as the doctors allow it. Until then, he asks for privacy for his family. “Charlène never asked to have these problems – but unfortunately they are there and we need space to address them. I therefore ask everyone to understand that and to leave my family alone for the next few weeks.”
