Carlo Ancelotti has won more Champions League titles as a coach than any other. His colleague Edin Terzic, who is 23 years younger, wants to prevent the trophy collection from growing any further.

Borussia Dortmund against Real Madrid, this is also the duel of the coaching generations. Before the Champions League final, BVB head coach Edin Terzic spoke in awe of record-breaking coach Carlo Ancelotti. “I have the greatest respect for him,” said Terzic about his colleague from Real Madrid, who is the most successful coach in the history of the competition with four Champions League titles.

“He didn’t do it with one team, but with different teams from different countries and different cultures. He wasn’t just a successful coach for a few years, but for over two decades,” added the 41-year-old, for whom today’s game is the first Champions League final on the sidelines. “He simply has to be a role model for every young coach.”

Ancelotti himself, who won two titles with AC Milan (2003, 2007) and two with Madrid (2014, 2022), was surprisingly thoughtful despite his previous successes. “When you reach a final, success and failure are so close together that you are naturally worried that it might not work out,” said the 64-year-old, who also won the European Cup twice as a player. “This is not my first time. But I also hope that this is not my last time.”
