The Bank of England (BoE) and the Treasury believe that Britain is likely to need to create a central bank digital currency (CBDC) by 2030. followThe Telegraph reported on February 4.

The digital pound roadmap is scheduled to be released next week. As a government source told the newspaper, Deputy Governor Jon Cunliffe is scheduled to provide an update on the BoE’s work on CDBC on Feb. 7.

“From our work to date Bank of England and the Treasury Judge whether there is a possibility that the digital pound will be necessary in the future,” said Governor Andrew Bailey and Treasury Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

BoE declined to comment for this article. But it announced that a joint consultation report on the digital pound would be released soon.
