More and more women in Bavaria are financially independent. This emerges from the first results of the 2023 microcensus, which the State Office for Statistics presented on Thursday in Fürth. Accordingly, the proportion of women who are dependent on the income of their spouse or relative fell from 21 to 14 percent in a ten-year comparison. According to the report, this applied to around 795,000 women. For men it was five percent, 245,000 people. According to the authority, the fact that more and more mothers are working has contributed to this development. In addition, pensions and parental allowance are becoming more important for women’s income.
The microcensus also shows an increased importance of paid work in old age. This is more important for both sexes aged 65 and over than it was ten years ago. In 2023, six percent of men in this age group said that they lived primarily from paid work, compared to three percent in 2013. During this period, the proportion of women tripled from one to three percent. Microcensus is the name of an official survey that has been carried out every year since 1957 among one percent of the population. The results are the basis for political planning and decisions, but are also available to business, the press and interested parties.
