Tile-cement: a little 1900 spirit?
For many, the tile-cement evokes the retro charm of interiors from the end of the 20th century. It is true that when Étienne Larmande perfected the process to manufacture them, he created a small revolution. Tile cement is produced from hydraulic lime, calcined clay, sand and a little water. Produced without baking, it allows you to make pretty mosaics at a low price: it can be found in most homes.
The return of cement tiles in the bathroom
After a few years spent in the “has-been” department, tile-cement has made a comeback, especially in the bathroom.
If the traditional patterns of cement tile still appeal to us as much, we fall for more contemporary variations, sometimes even daring to mix genres. If it is possible to unearth sublime models, or even to have it made to measure, tile-cement inspires many imitations that are simpler to implement or more affordable: porcelain stoneware tiles, wallpaper, wall stickers or even carpet.

Cement tile vs porcelain stoneware: how to choose?
The price of an authentic cement tile is higher than that of porcelain stoneware: count 100 € / m² on average for the cement tile against 50 to 60 € for a quality imitation stoneware. Cement tile also has the particularity of being significantly thicker than porcelain stoneware tile: an aspect that must be taken into account, especially in the case of a bathroom renovation.
