CDU women for more influence: “We have to become more”

In the planned reorganization of the CDU, the women have demanded a greater say. A reform of personnel and content would “only succeed with the women in the party,” said the chairwoman of the Women’s Union, Widmann-Mauz.

The women in the CDU have called for more power and influence in the repositioning of the party. “We have had too few women in parliament and party for years. We have to get more,” said Nadine Schön, the previous vice-chairman of the Union parliamentary group in the Bundestag, the “Rheinische Post”.

The gender of the future chairman or chairman is of secondary importance. Someone is needed “who will bring the party together and make it broader,” Schön continued. Nonetheless, the party had female leaders for a long time. “That was good for the party.”

“Realignment can only succeed with women”

The chairwoman of the Women’s Union, Annette Widmann-Mauz, also called for a growing influence of women in the party. “The reorganization of the CDU in Germany can only succeed in terms of content, personnel and structure with the women in the party,” said Widmann-Mauz of the editorial network in Germany. Women played an essential role and “they will also press for their consideration”.

The CDU wants to re-elect the entire federal executive committee at a special party conference. This was decided unanimously, said CDU General Secretary Paul Ziemiak on Monday after deliberations with the top committees in Berlin. In the daily topics Ziemiak said when asked whether Laschet would not remain party leader under any circumstances: “That’s the way it is.”

Possible applicants for CDU leadership are all male

However, so far only men have been considered possible successors to the CDU leadership, including the economic politician Friedrich Merz, Health Minister Jens Spahn, the foreign politician Norbert Röttgen, parliamentary group leader Ralph Brinkhaus and the economic politician Carsten Linnemann.

The Frauen Union announced a conference of its own to discuss the renewal of the party. The aim is to get involved in the renewal process. All female members of the CDU belong to the Women’s Union. They make up around 155,000 of the approximately 400,000 members.
