CDU: Friedrich Merz is almost too good for the Junge Union – opinion

The new chairman of the Junge Union, Johannes Winkel, has a small problem: Friedrich Merz is exactly the boss that the party youth has always wanted.

The Germany Day of the Junge Union in Fulda was surprisingly forgiving and civilized. Both the newly elected JU chairman Johannes Winkel and the CDU leader Friedrich Merz worked extensively but relatively moderately on the traffic light government in their speeches. Above all, the party youth and the parent party largely spoke with one voice. That wasn’t always the case.
