CDU boss already hot for the next office – Merz wants to do it like Merkel – domestic politics

After the election is before the election: The CDU party congress elected Friedrich Merz (66) with 94.6 percent to succeed Armin Laschet (60)!

And Merz wants the next office right away. BILD learned: The new party leader definitely wants to become chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group.

Merz’ hope: This makes it easier for him and the CDU in the opposition to attack Chancellor Olaf Scholz (63, SPD) and his traffic light government.

Merz does it like Merkel! In 2002 he had to give way to the then CDU leader Angela Merkel (67) as parliamentary group leader.

︎Now Merz wants to oust Ralph Brinkhaus (53) from the post of group leader. The election is scheduled for the end of April.

Problem: Brinkhaus does not want to step down voluntarily. And Merz absolutely avoid a fight candidacy.

In the Union it says: After the clear vote for Merz at the weekend, Brinkhaus should actually voluntarily vacate his office immediately.

And CSU boss Markus Söder (55) also recently declared: Merz has 1st right of access to the group chair.
