What is the symphysis?

What does symphysis pain feel like?

You now know that if your pelvis loosens up, that’s a completely normal “side effect” of your pregnancy. Some women don’t notice it that much, while others suffer from symphysis pain:

  • Rolling over while lying down makes the pain worse.

What can be done against loosening of the symphysis?

There are a few simple things you can do to manage the pain of a loosened symphysis:

  1. Get a prescription for a symphysis belt: This stabilizes your hip and counteracts the pain.
  2. Do pelvic floor exercises: You can easily learn these with the help of your midwife or in the birth preparation course.
  3. See a physical therapist or an osteopath: These too can help you with exercises and stretches.
  4. spare yourself: You should avoid major exertions during your pregnancy anyway.

Pelvic pain during pregnancy is common and, in most cases, not serious. Remember the miracle your body is performing and give it the rest it needs. However, if the pain is so severe that it restricts you in everyday life, it could be a loosening of the symphysis. However, this can only be diagnosed unequivocally by a doctor.
