The Glasperlenspiel singer Carolin Niemczyk was mercilessly hissed at the start of the Bundesliga. Now she speaks up.

It was the scandal at the Bundesliga opening game between Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Bayern Munich last Friday evening. Before the 6-1 smack by the reigning champions, the fans of the Europa League winner whistled mercilessly down on the Glass Bead Game singer Carolin Niemczyk (32). She sang the German national anthem before the 60th Bundesliga kick-off. Now Niemczyk spoke up in the “Bild” newspaper.

“It’s a shame that such a moment was disturbed by a very small part of the fans,” she told the newspaper. In her opinion, sport in particular should “always be about respect and fair play”. Despite the events, Niemczyk does not give up: “I would sing the national anthem again at an event like this at any time.”

Helene Fischer has also been whistled at

The Eintracht fans weren’t bothered by Niemczyk’s actual performance, but used their whistles to express their general rejection of show elements before important games. In the past there have always been whistles and boos at major football games in Germany regarding the supporting program. For example, when Helene Fischer (38) appeared in the half-time break of the DFB Cup final in 2017. Fans from Frankfurt were also involved then. Eintracht lost 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund.
