Car rental – Hertz orders electric cars – economy

The US car rental company Hertz wants to buy up to 65,000 electric cars from the Swedish-Chinese manufacturer Polestar in the next five years. In Europe, the first vehicles would be delivered in the spring, in North America and Australia at the end of the year, both companies announced on Monday. Polestar is owned by the Chinese Geely Group and its Swedish subsidiary Volvo and is manufactured in China. Hertz will initially order Polestar 2 vehicles, a midsize sedan with a hatchback. The car rental company had announced that it wanted to offer its customers “the largest electric vehicle rental fleet in North America and one of the largest in the world”. The cooperation with Polestar is an important step in this direction. The e-cars are to be rented to business and private customers and used in ride-sharing services.
