Car rental company – Sixt wants e-cars after all – economy

Just a few years ago, car rental company Erich Sixt made no secret of what he thought of electrically powered vehicles: “I don’t give e-cars any future,” he said in 2018, describing them as a political mistake, also because of the short range. “The climate discussion is outside the reality of business,” Sixt said later, the customer would rather drive diesel. His sons are now running the day-to-day business, and the general conditions for e-cars have also changed quite a bit. In any case, the company wants to convert most of its rental car fleet in Europe to electric cars by 2030. A press release mentions a 70 to 90 percent stake. Most recently it was 10 percent. Sixt had announced that it wanted to invest 50 million euros in its own charging stations.
