Cannes Awards: For all sex workers – Culture

Director Sean Baker wins the Palme d’Or for “Anora” and dedicates his award to a special profession. And Cannes has once again proven why it is the most important film festival in the world.

“I dedicate this award to all sex workers of the past, present and future,” said US director Sean Baker on Saturday evening in the Grand Théâtre Lumière in Cannes. He had just accepted the Palme d’Or, the festival’s main prize, for his comedy “Anora”. The film beat 21 other films in a competition that was above average even by Cannes standards. The jury led by President Greta Gerwig probably did not make this decision lightly.
