Canadian Milos Raonic sets record for aces in a three-set match

Milos Raonic knew how to use his favorite weapon on Monday: his serve. The Canadian scored 47 aces in his victory against Briton Cameron Norrie at the Queen’s tennis tournament in London, a new record for a best-of-three ATP match.

In the first round of the London grass tournament (ATP 500), the 186th in the world battled for 2h15 to overcome the 39th 6-7 (6/8), 6-3, 7-6 (11/9), a match at during which Raonic saved two match points.

A previous record of 45 aces

With a total of 47 aces, the 33-year-old Canadian beat the record of Croatian Ivo Karlovic, who scored 45 in the quarter-final of the Halle tournament in 2015 against Czech Tomas Berdych, according to the ATP.

According to Infosys ATP Stats, Raonic won 86% of his points on first serve and won all 17 of his service games. “My serve has always been the most important shot for me. This little record is something special, significant,” he reacted on the ATP website.
