Tragic death at a crossroads: A man helped a duck and her ducklings across the street in California. He was then run over by a car and fatally injured.

A family man just wanted to help and paid for it with his life. The tragic event took place in the Californian city of Rocklin, north of the capital Sacramento. There, a father wanted to help a mother duck with her chicks across a busy crossroads on Thursday evening. He parked his own car in which, according to witnesses, his own children were sitting and witnessed their father’s fatal accident. When the father was still on the street, he was hit by a car and fatally injured.

Passers-by applaud the man

This is how a twelve-year-old boy described it to the TV channel KCRA 3. Other witnesses confirm the statements. “He got out of the car and shooed the ducks across the street and everyone applauded because he was so kind. He helped them over the curb because all the little ducklings were struggling.” The boy took a picture of the scene. The boy continued: “My mum rolled down the window and said ‘Well done, well done’ and I said ‘Well done’ to him too.

A few moments later the man was run over. The police are now investigating the 17-year-old driver, who apparently had no alcohol involved. She was cooperative and was not taken into custody.
