Huge fun bathing resorts are to be built in the Californian desert, despite the drought. A project has now been stopped, but not because of a lack of water.

Of course that’s a stupid idea, probably even a little bit crazier than building a ski hall in the desert of Dubai – because there you can at least say in a decadently perverse way: Okay, there’s no snow nearby, so that’s it such a hall somehow makes sense. But the monster that they are planning in the Californian desert is so incredible that the British political comedian John Oliver said: “It’s monumentally stupid to even think about it.”
