Café Coffeemamas in Munich: Best coffee enjoyment for those in a hurry – Munich

Anyone who thinks of friendly, warm-hearted ladies who serve coffee with motherly care when they hear the name Coffeemamas can now learn: Coffemamas are trees. And not just any trees, but those that are planted on coffee plantations to give the delicate coffee plants their large and protective shade. At least that’s the explanation of Stefanie Hylton and Rüdiger Pankrath, who run the small shop on Lindwurmstraße.

In the back room, the coffee is actually roasted in-house and can not only be tasted on the spot or to go, but can also be purchased in whole packs full of fragrant beans. Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kenya or Brazil, the Coffeemamas offers a wide selection of different types of coffee, which are refined in the in-house roasting machine. If you are unsure, you can find out more about the various advantages of the individual varieties on the restaurant’s website and order your favorite variety.

The Coffeemamas logo can be seen everywhere.

At first glance, the café itself seems rather inconspicuous in the hustle and bustle of the busy street near Goetheplatz, but the colorful seating in front of the door and an equally colorfully designed facade stand out from the gray of the street. On the outside, the façade is adorned with a picture of a woman looking very contentedly over the rim of her steaming hot coffee mug. When you enter the café, you will find shelves full of coffee, syrup, mugs and merchandising products on the side of the entrance. The woman’s logo is omnipresent here too – on T-shirts and coffee bags.

Right behind it is the counter, behind which the boss often stands in person and fills the customer’s favorite beans into small packets in a good mood. There are individual wooden tables around the room, large and small, high and low, some with Munich daily newspapers, so that you can get an overview of the current news situation over a fresh morning coffee. But despite the cordiality, the café isn’t exactly a place where you’d spend an hour-long Sunday breakfast. Which is not even possible; because the store is closed on Sundays. The focus is on to-go operations.

What is there and how much does it cost?

The offer can be found on the large boards that have been hung around the counter. The selection of different coffee specialties is enormous. A normal cappuccino costs 3 euros, as does a caffè latte or a coffee from the French press. An Americano is available for 2.70 euros, the changing “coffee of the day”, a filter version, for 3.20 euros. If you want the milk alternatives soy or oat milk, you pay an extra 20 cents. The freshly squeezed orange juice (3.70 euros) provides a few extra vitamins, and there is also hot chocolate, various teas and lemonades.

If you are hungry, you should definitely order one of the bagels. Four different varieties are offered: white, with sesame, with linseed or with lye. It is then filled as desired. Prices range from 3.50 euros for a bagel with cream cheese, cucumber and tomato to 5.50 euros for a bagel with cream cheese, salmon and vegetables. Variations with homemade hummus, cheese, ham or pesto are also offered. For the sweet breakfast eaters there is a bagel with peanut butter and jelly.

There are also hearty panini in the display case, which you can also have warmed up, and lots of cake. The homemade and really very juicy carrot cake for 3 euros per piece is particularly popular. If you prefer chocolate, the brownies are recommended, and as a special tip, homemade scones. As is usual with scones, these are only slightly sweet, have a few hidden raisins, taste intensely spicy and are even a bit crunchy.

Who do you meet there?

The crowd at Coffeemamas is mixed. Business people enjoy a quick espresso while standing, mothers with babies meet for a coffee gossip, a few students eat bagels while studying together. Because that is also a plus point at Coffeemamas: the WiFi is fast and reliable. If you work from home and have a penchant for good coffee, you could move your workplace to Lindwurmstraße.
