Bye, manual transmission! Volkswagen announces the end of the gear stick

See in the video: Bye, manual transmission! Volkswagen announces the end of the beloved gear stick.

The gearshift lever in the center console will soon be out … in the near future, the so-called gearshift lever will only be found on classic cars.
Volkswagen has said goodbye to the conventional manual transmission – and thus also to the relics of historical drive systems. According to Volkswagen, this also includes the clutch pedal.
As the company from Wolfsburg announced, it will mainly rely on automatic transmissions in the future. Conventional gearshifts will only exist in the compact and small car segment until the end of the decade. As early as 2023, the new generation of Passat and Tiguan models will not have a manual gearshift or clutch pedal. The demand for manual switches is already falling in the upper price segment.
And another development is accelerating the end of technology: The Wolfsburg-based company will say goodbye to the internal combustion engine and its traditional drive technology in the future. Electric cars come onto the market almost exclusively with a single gearbox.
Clutch pedal and gear lever – at VW they will soon be obsolete.
