Goalkeeper Alexander Nübel has confirmed that Borussia Dortmund was also interested in him before moving to Bayern Munich.

In the summer of 2021, Alexander Nübel moved from FC Schalke 04 to FC Bayern Munich. Immediately beforehand, BVB had also signaled an interest in signing the keeper, but the 25-year-old put a stop to this effort.

“I played for Schalke and I was and still am a Schalke fan. Very simple,” said Nübel in an interview with the sports picture. For this reason alone, a change to the black and yellow was “not up for debate”.

He doesn’t necessarily have been welcomed with open arms by BVB fans either, he believes. “The adjustment phase at BVB would have been difficult because of my Schalke past,” continued Nübel.

In addition to BVB, RB Leipzig also wanted Alexander Nübel

Another commitment in the Bundesliga would have been more suitable for him. RB Leipzig had also expressed an interest in the goalkeeper at the time. “I thought about it intensively. I knew the then sports director Markus Krösche from Paderborn. That was an attractive option, but in the end I decided on Bayern,” said Nübel.

However, the 25-year-old never found his way past Manuel Neuer in Munich. He has been on loan to AS Monaco since last summer. His loan contract there runs until 2023. How things will continue after that is still unclear. A permanent move to Ligue 1 is also an option, as is a return to the German record champions.
