Business cycle – more bankruptcies – economy

The number of corporate insolvencies in Germany rose last year for the first time since the global financial crisis of 2009, but the feared wave of bankruptcies did not materialize despite the energy crisis and rising interest costs. 14,590 company insolvencies were reported to the district courts, 4.3 percent more than in 2021, according to the Federal Statistical Office. In 2021, however, 13,933 cases were the lowest since the insolvency code was introduced in 1999. The probable claims of the creditors from the reported company insolvencies were estimated by the district courts at around 14.8 billion euros. In 2021 they were still around 48.3 billion euros. The reason for this: In 2021, more economically important companies have filed for bankruptcy than in 2022, the statisticians said.
