Bus accidents, the main means of transport for long distances, are frequent in Bolivia. Monday, a tragedy once again occurred on the mountainous roads of the country. According to the emergency services which intervened, the fall of a bus in a ravine left “34 dead and 10 injured”, declared Colonel Juan Luis Cuevas, deputy chief of police.
José Luis Asaff, head of the Chuquisaca traffic police in the south of the country, also spoke of a fall from the bus of more than “150 meters”. The bus was carrying passengers to Sucre, the capital of the Chuquisaca department, from the village of Patolo, 50 km away.
The bus is completely destroyed
Videos posted on social networks show a dozen dead people lying on the road. In the images, we can see the bus completely destroyed at the foot of the cliff, while firefighters and other rescuers work on the scene.
On March 3, a bus accident, which also fell into a ravine, had already left the country in mourning with 21 deaths on a road between Santa Cruz and Cochabamba.
