Bundestag podcast series: Carmen Wegge from Berlin – Starnberg

After five months in the hotel, Carmen Wegge moved into her new apartment in Berlin last week. She had not applied to the Bundestag administration for accommodation in the so-called “snake”, even if the MP apartments in the neighboring building complex were “relatively cheap”. As a newcomer to the Bundestag, Wegge wanted to have a little distance to work, she says in the eighth podcast episode “From Starnberg to Berlin”.

The offer of the furnished apartment was sent to the regional group by e-mail, so it kind of fell at her feet. “No matter whether in Starnberg or Berlin, you either need luck or vitamin B.” In the capital, however, things are cheaper: the rent per square meter is 15.63 euros in Starnberg and 10.40 euros in Berlin-Mitte. Wegge pays 1,000 euros a month warm and “finally has a bathtub”. The joy is generally great, there is only one problem: the way home alone in the dark. After the death threats last week, he doesn’t feel good. “I find it very, very sad that members of the Bundestag and other politicians have to live with this feeling.”
