Bundesliga up-to-date: BVB loses in Wolfsburg – Stuttgart cheers late – Sport

After the last three wins in a row, Borussia Dortmund has lost once again in the Bundesliga and thus missed the leap to second place in the table behind FC Bayern. In a wild game, coach Edin Terzic’s team lost 2-0 (0-1) at in-form VfL Wolfsburg – Micky van de Ven (6th) and Lukas Nmecha (90th + 1) made the wolves celebrate.

Borussia remain fourth in the table for the time being – Bayern, SC Freiburg and Union Berlin can thus extend their lead over BVB. BVB last lost in Wolfsburg in May 2015. The wolves climbed to eighth place with their third win in a row. “We were there from the first minute. We certainly could have used the many chances we had a little earlier. But I still have to say that we played an almost perfect game. It can go on like this.” the conclusion of VfL coach Niko Kovac.

Shortly before the German squad was announced on Thursday, the World Cup chances of at least one Dortmunder received another damper: Marco Reus did not go to Wolfsburg at all due to persistent ankle problems. The 33-year-old only made his comeback in the 3-0 win over Bochum on Saturday. “The pain was just too great,” said Terzic: “We’ll take a close look at it over the next few days – with great hope and a great wish that it might be enough for Friday.” But he didn’t sound really confident. “But we just hope that he’ll get better soon and be able to play football without any problems,” said Terzic.

The hosts, on the other hand, started enthusiastically in front of 28,675 spectators. Omar Marmoush got his first really good chance in the third minute, but Gregor Kobel made a strong save. When van de Ven headed the ball after a corner shortly afterwards, the Swiss was powerless. Dortmund had some problems with the well-organized defense of Wolfsburg, often lacking pace, ideas and determination.

But Donyell Malen caused danger after good individual actions (19th and 21st), Youssoufa Moukoko was closely shadowed. Over time, BVB gained more and more of an advantage thanks to their individual class, but the wolves also looked for their chance – so the fans saw a lively game.

Again, Marmoush (40th) just missed, Süle hit the post for Dortmund (45th + 1). After that, Dortmund built up more and more pressure, Wolfsburg was pushed in at the back – Moukoko had a chance with a header. Wolfsburg continued to try to be successful with counterattacks. But Jonas Wind failed because of Kobel (61st). And so it remained exciting until national player Nmecha scored.

Stuttgart celebrates in the 98th minute

The successful home series of VfB Stuttgart under the direction of interim coach Michael Wimmer continues thanks to a last-minute goal. Thanks to the late goal of Konstantinos Mavropanos (90th minute +8), VfB won 2-1 (1-1) against Hertha BSC. Stuttgart took an early lead through Serhou Guirassy (4th minute). Dodi Lukebakio (19th) equalized. But then Mavropanos struck from a Borna Sosa corner in added time. “There was always the belief that we could score,” said Wimmer on Sky. “I kind of had the feeling that Dinos was going to get a header. Of course we’re over the moon and happy that it actually works out to make it 2-1.”

Shortly before, VfB had to cope with a moment of shock: after a painful header duel with Ivan Sunjic, captain Wataru Endo was carried off the field after lengthy treatment. After the game, VfB announced that Endo was able to speak again.

Both teams are still in the bottom third of the table with twelve points each. Stuttgart’s interim coach Michael Wimmer managed the third Bundesliga win in five games. Before the game in Leverkusen, he collected further arguments for continued employment. How things will continue in terms of coaching at VfB will be decided during the winter break.

In the fourth minute, after a class pass from Tiago Tomas, Guirassy shot free-standing, ice cold, right into the interface of the Hertha chain. A lively game then developed in which Silas missed VfB’s great chance to make it 2-0 (16′). That was to take revenge: Almost in return, Lukebakio used a positional error by Waldemar Anton at the far post after a cross from Jonjoe Kenny to make it 1-1. VfB seemed stricken for a while. However, the Berliners hardly took the initiative going forward. A header from Davie Selke after a corner kick was the only chance. The Swabians only increased the pressure again shortly before the break. But Hertha keeper Oliver Christensen saved his team from falling behind again when Hiroki Ito headed the ball. Only after a good 70 minutes did the game become more open again. First, VfB defender Konstantinos Mavropanos saved Lucas Tousart’s shot on the line, while Guirassy Christensen tested at the other end.

Bochum wins the third home game in a row

With new old home strength, VfL Bochum draws hope again in the fight against relegation. In the ultimately happy 2-1 (2-0) against Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Bundesliga penultimate celebrated their third win in a row in the Ruhr Stadium and reduced the gap to the first non-relegation zone to two points. Last year’s climber, who managed to stay up in the league mainly thanks to eight successes “anne Castroper”, started this season with three home defeats.

The Gladbachers, who are still waiting for their first away win, initially helped actively. Blatant defensive mistakes preceded the goals of Christopher Antwi-Adjei (7th) and Philipp Hofmann (12th), who made Bochum’s first home win against the Foals in 16 years perfect. Alassane Plea only managed to get the goal back (63′).

“Of course that gives us a push. We just have to score points away from home as soon as possible,” said Bochum’s winning goal scorer Hofmann in the Sky interview, but was initially very satisfied: “We’re back in business.”

Because, in addition to Gladbach’s regular keeper Yann Sommer, substitute goalkeeper Tobias Sippel was also absent at short notice due to a training injury, Jan Olschowsky made his Bundesliga debut in the Borussia box. The 20-year-old, who normally plays in the regional league, had to get the ball out of the net after just a few minutes. At first he thought Antwi-Adjei’s goal didn’t count because assistant referee Sven Waschitzki-Günther flagged offside. But according to video evidence, Bochum was allowed to cheer.

Just five minutes later, Olschowsky was beaten again – after a major mistake by Nico Elvedi, who had switched back to central defense after recovering from a cold. Hofmann used the bad pass from the Swiss in his own penalty area to make it 2-0. It took Gladbach almost half an hour to get into the game. Nevertheless, Bochum remained the more dangerous team, who tried again and again with long passes to the fast Antwi-Adjei. With a long-range shot, the 28-year-old narrowly missed making it 3-0 (41st). Hofmann had an even bigger chance just before the half-time whistle (45+1).

After the restart, Iwan Ordez hit the post with a header (52nd) – the hosts could have led higher a long time ago. So it got exciting again after the 1:2 by Plea. Another guest goal a few minutes before the final whistle didn’t count due to offside, to the delight of the Bochum players and fans.
