Bundesliga: Haaland shoots Dortmund in first place – sport

Borussia Dortmund – Mainz 05 3: 1 (1: 0), Gates: 1: 0 Reus (3rd), 2: 0 Haaland (54th / penalty), 2: 1 Burkardt (87th), 3: 1 Haaland (90th + 4)

Borussia Dortmund is the league leader in the Bundesliga. And if the top match between Leverkusen and Munich on Sunday ended without a winner, the Westphalia would stay first – who would have thought that after the bloodless, fearful appearance on the 6th matchday at 0: 1 in Mönchengladbach?

The game couldn’t have started better for BVB. Everyone looked at Erling Haaland, who had overcome the stubborn bruise in his thigh that had stopped him for weeks. But the ball landed after a fine relay over the right and two inadequate attempts at clarification by Mainz in front of Marco Reus’ left foot, who hammered the ball into the corner of the goal with a full cocked shot after only 159 seconds. Reus and Mainz, wasn’t there something? Correct: In his 21st game against Rheinhessen, it was already the 21st scorer point for Borussia.

Sometimes, however, an early lead is poison for your own team, and although BVB continued to act offensively in the stadium, which was well-filled with 60,000 spectators, with almost 85 percent possession of the ball, little jumped out against the guests, who were now more and more gripping. Haaland was first noticed because he struggled because he rarely got the ball. So he acted as a template provider, but Meunier narrowly forgave (22nd). When most of the viewers expected the half-time whistle, the ball came to the Norwegian almost unexpectedly – Mainz ‘keeper Zentner had to make himself particularly big to prevent the second goal, which was averted a fraction of a second later when Bellingham’s conclusion from the recovered Mainz captain Niakaté was cleared exactly on the line.

The second half also began with a climax … oh what, with three bangs: First Haaland dribbled in the penalty area and was just hindered (exactly how, that was initially not visible); In the direct counterattack, Akanji from Dortmund drove the Mainz Onisiwo into the parade with a very risky tackle in his own penalty area. At the same time, referee Schlager was asked to take a closer look at a scene – not Akanji’s tackle, but a handball by Widmer from Mainz. And yes, it was hand; and Haaland turned – with a lot of luck – in the middle of the goal, Hundreds of weight almost caught the ball.

The Dortmund team tried to take it a little more relaxed, after all, three English weeks are coming up. That is not without risk against the spiky Mainz, and there were also great chances for Onisiwo (62nd) and Boetius (77th), but the subsequent goal by Burkardt (87th) after a defensive sloppiness from Dortmund fell too late. And when Bellingham scampered the ball in stoppage time and served Haaland well, it was 3-1 for the new league leaders.

SC Freiburg – RB Leipzig 1: 1 (0: 1), Goals: 0: 1 Forsberg (32nd / penalty kick), 1: 1 Jeong (64th)

For Freiburg it was the first game in the new stadium. It is named after an amusement park and the premiere was definitely – pardon – a rollercoaster ride for coach Christian Streich, who said before kick-off: “You have to see that it is filled with life.” The 56-year-old followed his own request when he was very upset about a penalty whistle (Forsberg converted) and saw yellow. After falling behind, his team stormed furiously at the Leipzig goal – especially in the first few minutes after the break.

When RB defender Mohamed Simakan fouled Freiburg’s Lucas Höler in the penalty area, referee Daniel Siebert’s whistle surprisingly remained silent, and – even more surprisingly – also SC coach Streich. Perhaps he was ignoring the injustice because he trusted his eleven’s assault. In any case, Woo-yeong Jeong’s headed goal shortly afterwards was a double reason to celebrate: It meant the equalizer and the 1000th home goal. There were still the best chances of victory, but the Freiburg team can confidently uncork a Pinot Blanc from Baden after the 1-1 draw.

Eintracht Frankfurt – Hertha BSC 1: 2 (0: 1), Gates: 0: 1 judge (7th), 0: 2 Ekkelenkamp (63rd), 1: 2 Paciencia (78th / penalty)

An uncanny constant in the Bundesliga is the Bayern beating curse. Anyone who dares to beat Munich cannot win the following Bundesliga game with terrifying regularity. Already last season it caught the Eintracht, which lost after a victory against FC Bayern in Bremen (where not many lost), Borussia Mönchengladbach, FSV Mainz 05 and TSG Hoffenheim were also victims of the curse in the last round of the game.

Now, after the 2: 1 against Munich, the SGE conceded a 1: 2 against Hertha BSC – and it deserved it. Berlin took the lead with a Marco Richter header after a Darida cross, Krzysztof Piatek should have scored at least one goal in the first half alone, but missed excellent chances. Substitute Jurgen Ekkelenkamp made up for that with his first ball contact. The goal from Gonçalo Paciencia’s penalty came too late. The rather unexpected victory away in front of the returned Frankfurt fans could give Hertha coach Pal Dardai something like a quiet week for a long time.

Union Berlin – VfL Wolfsburg 2-0 (0-0), Goals: 1-0 Awoniyi (49th), 2-0 Becker (83rd)

You got used to it, but it’s still amazing that 1. FC Union Berlin beats VfL Wolfsburg. Whereby: “Just for a moment” they didn’t do that, it was a two-fight-intensive football game with few highlights – but for that, too, there have been three points since the beginning of football. Taiwo Awoniyi, who had been very efficient all season, pushed the ball through Koen Casteels’ legs to score his sixth goal of the season. Before that, Dodi Lukebakio could have turned the game for VfL Wolfsburg in a different direction – but only hit the post. With eight minutes to go, Andreas Voglsammer made a good physical effort, crossed cleanly and Sheraldo Becker headed a head. What else was there? Maxi Arnold draws level with Wolfsburg’s record player Diego Benaglio with 259 games and Union has not lost in Köpenick for 20 games.

Greuther Fürth – VfL Bochum 0: 1 (0: 0), Gates: 0: 1 Losilla (80th)

The last Fürth received the penultimate Bochum. The duel of the newcomers certainly does not belong on the top shelf of the Bundesliga branch – but the courage of desperation has already moved a lot. Not so in Fürth. There is more offensive at a rooting table. There were hardly any shots and very few of them hit the goal. There was some relief after the break. Shortly before the end, the Bochum team actually managed one more goal – of course, according to a standard. Three important points in the relegation battle for VfL. However, the performance of the two teams was not an application to stay in the Bundesliga.
