Thomas Müller returns to the starting XI of FC Bayern Munich. After the captain came on twice as a joker in the Bundesliga, he started again from the start against FC Schalke 04.

Leon Goretzka is back in the squad after his yellow card suspension, but is initially only on the bench.

Müller recently had to be satisfied with the role of substitute not only in the Bundesliga but also twice in the Champions League. Coach Thomas Tuchel had reported good training impressions from Müller, who made a “very fresh” impression.

Tuchel justified Müller’s return to the starting eleven with “a bit more offensive orientation”. “We wish for a better line-up in the penalty area,” said the Munich coach. “The pressure from you was so great that he had to play,” said Tuchel in the Sky interview with a wink. “No, definitely not, that shouldn’t matter either.” Müller also had to be satisfied with the role of substitute in the quarter-finals in the Champions League. In preparation for the Schalke game, Tuchel had already reported good training impressions from Müller, who made a “very fresh” impression.

Compared to the 2-1 win at Werder Bremen last weekend, Tuchel made two changes to the starting XI. Like Müller, Leroy Sané is new to the team, Ryan Gravenberch and Sadio Mané are left out.

At FC Schalke 04, coach Thomas Reis relies on a defensive formation. Danny Latza moves into the team for defensive midfield. Henning Matriciani is missing from the squad. Jere Uronen comes in for him in the first eleven. The Finn starts as a left-back. On the offensive, Michael Frey replaces Simon Terodde.
